From Malawi

Namgomeka Comsip Cooperative Limited was established in 2000 and is made up of a number of different weaving clubs. These products came from the hands of the Tiyanjane Weaving club and Tikondane Weaving club.

Namgomeka Comsip Cooperative Limited

With this weaving initiative, their lives have been improved as a result of the money earned that has enabled them to construct and renovate their homes, provided members with the means to feed their households and educate their children beyond primary school. This initiative has further allowed them to improve their quality of life through acquiring mobile phones, bicycles and investing in livestock. Weavers in the cooperative are able to employ other skilled weavers in the community which speaks to the collaborative efforts that have led to job creation. This collaborative spirit within the cooperative has fostered a sense of unity and shared prosperity among members.

The Future

Their future hopes are that they further their talents and skills by learning ways to enhance their product and its value. They aspire to explore new designs for weaving chairs, baskets, and lamps with more modern contemporary styles. They desire to boost the production of their woven goods and increase profitability not just for themselves but to open doors for their children and further their education beyond primary and secondary school. Finally, they wish to purchase land in the area to plant trees to use as alternative material for weaving furniture.
